FOR BRIDES: HELPFUL TIDBITS #3 – RENTING DRESSES

Today’s Helpful Tidbit post is about Rent the Runway.com!  I know this company has been around for awhile, I can’t believe I haven’t heard of it until recently.  This would have been so helpful during the year leading up to my wedding, when I was scrambling to find the right dress to wear to my bridal shower, bacholerette party, and other wedding related events.

What is RTR?  Rent the Runway.com is basically an online wardrobe that registered members can rent from.  The cost is per item you rent and it ranges from as low as $40 all the way up to over a grand – I think there’s dresses that go above that too.  Their tagline is TAKE THE STRESS OUT OF SHOPPING. RTR IS THE easy WAY TO LOOK FABULOUS FOR ANY OCCASION – I love it! Not only do they rent dresses but they will recommend accessories to go with each dress, jewelry, clutches, etc, SO EASY.

Nady and I have 8 weddings to attend this year so I was extremely excited to try RTR!  We had an outdoor wedding to attend in PA two weekends ago and I had nothing to wear-I haven’t bought a dress since my bachelorette party in 2008!  I wanted to get something fun and colorful-RTR was perfect b/c my problem is I tend to get sick of bright colors very easily and will most likely only wear it once or twice.  The best part was, they were offering $25 off for new customers!

After spending way too much time on their website, I decided to go with a coral dress.  RTR recommended I wear a statement piece necklace-the one they recommended was a colorful piece by Kate Spade.  But since the cost of that rental was more than the dress itself, I declined.  I later went to Macy’s and bought a gold and coral necklace for about $20.  I selected a 3 day rental-the wedding was on a Saturday and I requested a Friday delivery.  It arrived around noon on Friday in a garment bag that was boxed.  Sorry I didn’t think to take pictures!  The dress looked brand NEW.  Oh I forgot to mention, with RTR, you can select a 2nd size for FREE!  So if you’re between a size 2 and a size 4, they will give you both sizes for no extra charge!  I wore the dress to the wedding and got lots of compliments!  Returning was a breeze-I put the dress back in the prepaid UPS bag and mailed it back on Monday.

Here’s the coral dress I picked out.  I tried to email the pic I took from my cell phone but there’s something wrong with my phone.  I can’t wait to move back to the iPhone when the new one comes out.

RTR was SUPER DUPER EASY!  I would definitely do it again but I don’t think I will be renting a dress for every wedding I attend this year-it can really start to add up!  I originally thought it would be around $25 if I chose a dress in the $50 rental price range.  But with the shipping charge of $10, insurance of $5, and taxes, it came out to be $50 for a one time wear.  But I think this is AMAZING for soon-to-be brides with the number of photo ops they have in the year leading up to the wedding!  So definitely try it and let me know how it goes!!
